Single Parent/Displaced Homemaker Services
Single parents and displaced homemaker students are invited to join SPiN (Single Parent Network) for monthly networking/educational/support group meetings in the Williams Building. Qualified students may receive nominal financial assistance and free educational materials. All students who are parents are welcome to attend the monthly meetings. Interested students should contact Donna Berge or a student services advisor at any of the three campuses for more information and an application.
Definition
- A single parent must have either sole custody or joint custody of a minor child or children.
- A displaced homemaker must have been a stay-at-home parent for four or more years and be divorced, separated, widowed or married to a disabled spouse.
Qualifications
- Student must be a single parent or displaced homemaker.
- Student must be enrolled for 6 credit hours or more.
- Student must be enrolled in a 2-year-degree, transfer program or diploma seeking program.
- Student must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or above.
- Student must complete the FAFSA and have an unmet need.
- Student must meet with program advisor twice per semester to retain eligibility.
Financial Assistance
Students may be eligible for financial assistance based on unmet need. Assistance may be in the form of pre-paid gas cards or educational supplies.
Academic Advising
A program advisor will review student COMPASS/ASSET scores and assist with enrollment in appropriate courses. Students are required to meet with their advisor twice each semester to create a personalized plan of courses to reach educational goals.
Informational Meetings
Informative and educational meetings will take place on the third Wednesday of each month from noon to 12:50 p.m. in the Williams Building on the Scottsbluff campus. Each session will have a topic of discussion to help students deal with personal, academic and career concerns. Attendance is strongly encouraged to retain eligibility in the program. All student-parents are welcome to attend.
Community Agency Referrals
Program advisors can refer students to various community agencies to assist with personal, social or economic issues outside the scope of the program.

TRiO Programs
- Y.E.S.:Student Support Services helps qualified college students persist toward completion of a bachelors degree.
- Veterans Upward Bound: Veterans Upward Bound Program provides educational help to qualified veterans for the improvement of their educational skills before and while they attend a college, university, vocational, or technical school. Assistance is also available for completion of financial aid and scholarship applications.
- Upward Bound: Upward Bound helps qualified high school students improve their academic achievement in high school and prepare for higher education.

- Supplemental Instruction: Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly review sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. S.I. is provided for students who want to improve their understanding of course material and improve their grades.
